Claire & Friends - Joint 40th Birthday Party
Our Friends Together In Electric Dreams!
When the time came for a group of five material girls & wild boys from Wheathampstead to plan their joint 40th fancy dress birthday celebration, only two things could be guaranteed. One, it had to be 80s-themed, and two, there had to be an LED full-colour retro dance floor in place to set just the right vibe for the night. Oh, and number three was also pretty obvious; there would be lots and lots and lots of Cocktails!
In truth, having five strong-minded professionals as your collective client (and trying to please them all!), could often be a little tricky to navigate, but in this case it was straight-forward. The funky lit dance floor was just the ticket to give the space an instant 80’s vibe that no one could disagree with and the music was easy too. ‘Just squeeze in as many monster 80s cheesy anthems as possible in the five hours!’ client Claire said.
No need to ask a second time as far as we’re concerned, you concentrate on buying the fluorescent neon leggings, life-size Tom Cruise cut-outs, Rubik’s cubes & Ra-ra skirts and leave the tunes to us…
The other great thing about a full 80’s night, besides the theming, is that you get a chance to delve a little deeper into a decade of really, really great party music. Think about all those classic 80’s films & TVs shows that gave us some absolutely brilliant dance floor fillers. So whether you’re a fan of Police Academy or the Breakfast Club, it’s a great opportunity, just for a minute to move beyond the ‘usual wedding 80’s music’ and plunge a little deeper into the decade that gave us everything from ABC right through to Yazz & her Plastic Population.
On the night itself, Showtime Events Director & DJ James was put in charge of creating the perfect mix-tape for the evening. ‘For me the challenge wasn’t getting the party cooking and keeping it there, it was squeezing in all the great tunes that just have to be played at an 80’s night (and a few more). After all, when else can you get away with playing Ghostbusters, Hey Mickey & Too Shy all in a row?’
After her hangover had cleared a few weeks later, Claire said ‘thank you all so much, it was an awesome night! So many of my friends told me it was the best party they'd ever been to. The music was exactly what we wanted, a pure 80's cheese-fest to match the iconic dance floor. We were very impressed that you even managed to get one of the birthday boys on his feet to Star Trekkin’! This is unlikely to be witnessed ever again!’
So as we always say, clients happy, 80’s party crowd happy, Showtime Events happy!
So C’mon Eileen, if this has Suddenly inspired you to create your own Club Tropicana for your Happy Birthday, get in touch with Showtime and let us DJ Especially For You and get you Into The Groove & Spin You Right Round.
